Thesis Guidelines

EDS or WJST students who will be completing a thesis should submit two UNBOUND copies to the Library, according to the following guidelines:

1. Follow Turabian's Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations (7th edition, Appendix: Paper Format and Submissions) for thesis layout. A left-hand margin of one inch is sufficiently wide for binding.

2. The thesis must be printed on acid-free paper.

3. The title page must contain the following data:

  • Title (this should be as short and meaningful as possible, so that it will fit on the spine of the bound thesis--see no. 4)
  • Author's name (make sure the surname is indicated somehow)
  • Degree being awarded
  • Name of the school
  • Date degree awarded (month/year or year alone is sufficient)

4. The title must be concise, because the bindery will print no more than 60 characters on the spine, including spaces, your surname, and the year.

5. The names of the readers should be listed on the second page.

6. A check for $20.00 per copy should be made out to the EDS/WJST Library with a note that it is for thesis-binding. The Library will bind as many copies as you wish in addition to the two (2) copies for the Library itself; bring the unbound copies and $20 for each additional copy to be bound. If you want us to mail copies of your thesis to you, please include postage fees as follows:

Postage Fees for Mailing Bound Theses
Continental United States First copy: $5. Each additional copy: $3
Canada First copy: $10. Each additional copy: $5
Overseas First copy: $25. Each additional copy: $5

Please provide us your contact information after graduation as it takes several weeks for the bound copies to be returned from the bindery.
