but optional. See More About Print
Preview.).
Select Print.
- 2. A box entitled Print
Job Details will appear. Please be patient. Depending on
the speed of your workstation, this may take a few seconds. "Please
enter your Username or Logon ID." You may enter any name
or initials. You will need to remember this name when you release
the print job. The name does NOT have to correspond to an official
name or logon. We recommend that you use the same name each time
you submit a print job. All the jobs that you submit will appear
on the print station screen under this name. Do not use "lab"
for this name.

- 3. Click on the gray Next
button on the lower right hand corner of the screen (or Cancel
if do not wish to proceed.)
- 4. A second Print
Job Details box will appear.
"Please enter a name for this job." Enter a name to allow
you to identify this particular print job. The name can be meaningful
and descriptive, or short and nondescriptive. Keep in mind that
you may be sending multiple jobs to the print queue to release
later, so you may want to give descriptive names to the jobs.
Jobs you submit will remain in the print system for 2 hours. After
2 hours, any unreleased jobs will automatically be deleted from
the print system.
- 5. Click on the gray Print
button on the lower right corner of the box. If you do not wish
to proceed, click on the Cancel
or Back
buttons instead.

- 6. Go to the print station monitor next to the printer. Move
the mouse to view the logon screen. A box entitled "Identifying
Yourself" will appear. Enter the Logon ID you used as your
Username or Logon ID in step 2 above. Hit the Enter
key -- or -- click on the gray Logon
button to proceed.
- 7. A box titled "Releasing
Print Jobs" will appear. A list of all the print jobs you
have submitted in the last two hours with this username will appear.
The jobs will be sorted by the time they were submitted. Select
a job that you wish to print by clicking on that line with the
mouse. Notice that a message will appear on the lower part of
the list telling you how many pages and what the cost of the print
job will be. The Balance listed below this line will be $0.00
until you insert a copy/print card.
Return
to Steps
- 8. Insert your copy/print card into the card reader located
between the monitor and the printer. If you do not have a copy/print card, you may purchase one from the vending station on the main floor, in the lobby of Sherrill Hall. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE
TO PRINT WITHOUT A CARD. The card should be inserted with
the stripe facing down. The arrow design on the top of the card
should be inserted into the card reader. The card reader will
"read" your card to check the balance. Be patient; this takes
a second or two. The balance on your card then appears on the
screen. Click on the gray Print
button to release the job. The cost of the job will be deducted
from the balance on your card and appear on the screen. The job
will begin to print.
- 9. If you wish to release a second print job, select it by clicking
on that line with the mouse. Notice that a message will appear
on the lower part of the list, telling you how many pages and
what the cost of the print job will be. If your card is still
in the card reader, click on the gray
Print button to start printing. The card reader "times
out" and ejects your card after 20 seconds as a safety precaution.
If it has timed out, simply reinsert the card. We recommend that
you print each job separately, using the steps outlined above.
Although the software would allow you to select multiple jobs
for printing in one step, we have been advised that this may be
problematic. Please avoid doing this, or do it at your own risk.
Return
to Steps
- 10. LOG OFF! After you have completed releasing your
print jobs, click on the gray "Logoff" button on the left hand
center portion of the screen. This will release your copy/print
card from the card reader. Please be sure to take your card and
your prints with you. If you forget to logoff, the card reader
"times out" after 20 seconds as a safety precaution. We strongly
recommend that you write your name on the back of the card. If
you find a card in the reader or copiers, please turn it in to the staff at the Circulation Desk. We will try to get the card back to its
owner. While only you can see and release your print jobs, any valid
copy/print card can be used on any of the Library printers
or copy machines. Please be careful about holding onto your card.
There are no refunds for lost or stolen copy/print cards.

Options for Economizing
on Printing
1. Instead of Printing, E-mail the Document
Some databases allow
you to e-mail article citations or full text. You can e-mail a list of books
from a search in the Online Catalog.
You can also copy and paste text from a document
or a web page into an e-mail message. 2. Save the Document to a Diskette (Floppy Disk)
Insert a diskette into the computer's A: drive (available only on machines in the Computer Lab) and click "Save As" on the File menu. Blank diskettes are available at the Circulation Desk for 50 cents.
3. Use Print Preview
The Print Preview feature will show you how many pages you'll be printing. You can then limit your print job to the exact pages you want (see Printing Selected Pages), or choose instead to e-mail or save the document.
