What should I do if I can't find a book on the shelf?

Please check the Online Catalog again to be sure that the call number is correct and that the book is not checked out. Then fill out a Search Request Form online or in print at the Circulation Desk.

Where can I make photocopies and how much do they cost?

Copy machines for public use are located in the lobby of Sherrill Hall and on the lower level of the Library. Photocopiers accept coins and small bills as well as copy cards. If you need change, the Access Services staff can change bills or coins for you. Copies made with a blank card or cash cost 10 cents per copy.

How can I get a copy/print card?

Copy/print cards may be purchased from a dispenser located by the copiers in the lobby of Sherrill Hall. A card must first be purchased with a $1 bill. Ask at the Circulation Desk if you need change. You may then add value to the card at the dispenser, or at any of the copiers.
$5 will add 50 copies or printed pages.
$10 will add 105 copies or printed pages.
$20 will add 215 copies or printed pages.
You may add value to your card at any time. Please write your name on the card, so it can be returned to you if found.

You are welcome to use library materials in the library, but in order to check out books you must be a faculty member, staff member, or student at EDS, WJST, or the BTI. Others, such as visiting scholars and ministers in the vicinity, may be eligible to apply for library privileges. See the Circulation Services staff for more information.

When are you open?

How can I get a study carrel?

Study Carrel application forms are available at the Circulation Desk. Complete the form and return it to the Circulation Desk along with a $25 refundable key deposit. For more detailed information, please view our Study Carrel Policy. If you simply want to store items for the day, lockers are available for small rental fee from EDS.

Can I use my laptop computer in the library?

Yes.

If your laptop has a wireless card (802.11b or 802.11g), you can access the Internet and Library databases from anywhere in Sherrill Hall. Set the SSID (Network Name) to library.

Dataports for Internet connection are located in the Atrium (across from the Circulation Desk). In order to use a network connection in the Atrium, you will need the following:

  • laptop with a network card
  • network cable (category 5e patch cable)
  • Test your laptop's configuration by starting your Web browser and accessing the Library's Web site: http://www.edswjst.org/.

If you cannot connect, you may have to configure your laptop differently. To do this:

  • Go to the desktop. Right click on Network Neighborhood / My Network Places.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click on the TCP/IP entry.
  • Change the TCP/IP properties so that the following radio buttons are checked:
  • Obtain IP address automatically.
  • Use DHCP for WINS resolution.
  • Disable DNS or Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  • Depending on which Operating System you are running, the above steps may be slightly different.

How can I verify which items I have checked out and if I have overdue charges?

You can find out which items you have checked out, when they are due and whether you have overdue charges by checking your account online using your Library PIN. You may obtain a PIN from the Circulation Desk on the main floor of the Library. You can also check your account at the Circulation Desk or call 617-349-3602.

How do I prepare my thesis for submission and binding?

    Check Thesis Guidelines.
