Policies Applicable to All

Responsibility:
All library material must be properly charged out and its prompt and safe return is the personal responsibility of the individual to whom it is loaned. The privilege of borrowing is a personal one and may not be transferred.

Confidentiality
The Library upholds the confidentiality of its circulation records and will not reveal patron information.

Change of address:
It is the responsibility of all EDS/WJST faculty, staff, and students to report changes of address to the Library Circulation Desk (617-349-3602).

Regular EDS/WJST Borrower Policies

EDS/WJST Faculty and Staff

  • All items, except videos and DVD's, circulate until the semester end and may be renewed two times (if not subject to a request from another patron) before they must be returned to the Library's circulation desk. Videotapes and DVDs have a one-week circulation and may also be renewed twice (if not requested by another patron).[See "Renewals" below.]
  • If recalled for reserves or another patron, the due date is changed to 7 days from the point of recall (minimum guaranteed loan period is 10 days).
  • No limit on the number of items that may be charged out, but common sense is advised.
  • Courtesy renewal reminders are sent within a week after the due date. Items must be renewed within 60 days of the due date or a bill for the replacement of the item is issued. If items have already been renewed twice, they must be brought to the Circulation Desk in order for them to be renewed again.

Special Borrower Policies

Special Borrower Cards are available to persons who fall into one of the following categories:

  • EDS/WJST Alumni
  • Area clergy
  • Members of Boston Theological Institute schools with valid I.D.'s
  • EDS/WJST Visiting Scholars (Persons proposed in writing by EDS/WJST deans or presidents)
  • Participants in EDS/WJST summer programs, persons auditing EDS/WJST classes, or non-admitted EDS/WJST students

Cards will be issued for up to one year, expiring on June 30th following the date of issue. Cards issued on or after April 1st in any year will expire on June 30th of the next year.

Renewals of Special Borrower's Card are made in person at the Library's Circulation Desk. Persons who have outstanding fines or bills for replacement of items will not be eligible to renew their cards until such accounts have been settled.

Special Borrowers do not qualify for interlibrary borrowing privileges.

Renewals

You may renew items in person, by mail, by telephone, or by fax. Using your ID and PIN, you may also renew the items you have checked out via the "My Account" link in the Online Catalog. You can obtain a PIN from Circulation Desk staff.

  • To renew by telephone, call 617-349-3602. Please have ready your EDS/Weston Library identification card or barcode and the names of the item(s).
  • To renew by fax,
    • Fax your request to 617-349-3603 with "To: Circulation Desk" and "Subject: Renewal Request" at the top of the fax.
    • Include both your name and ID number as found on your EDS/WJST identification card or your name and the barcode number found on your Special Borrowers card.
    • For each item you want to renew, include the 14-digit sticker number on the back inside cover of the item (the barcode number that begins with 30135) and the call number as found on the spine.
  • To renew by mail,
    • Mail your request to EDS/WJST Library, 99 Brattle St., Cambridge, MA 02138.
    • Include the information listed above for renewing by fax.
