About the Library

Borrow from Other Libraries

If the EDS Library does not own a book or article that you need, we will submit your requests to other libraries.

The Library strongly encourages you to take advantage of direct borrowing privileges at Harvard University and the BTI libraries. If a book that you want (which our Library does not own -- check the Online Catalog first!) is available at Harvard or another local BTI Library, the fastest method for you to get the book is to go directly to the other library to check it out. Regular students of EDS are entitled to a Harvard borrowing card.

If you are unable to go to Harvard or another BTI library to check out the book, the Library will request the book for you from another library. The lending library will decide in each case whether or not a particular item can be provided, and the length of the loan period. Delivery time varies from a few days to several weeks, but on average, books take about two weeks to arrive.

Eligible materials
Interlibrary loan requests will be accepted from EDS users for material:
  • Not owned by the Library
  • Listed in the Online Catalog as "missing"
  • Which has been recalled and not returned within 10 days
  • At the bindery

  • If an item is held at the EDS Library, but meets one of the categories above, please note this on your request.

    Ineligible materials
Interlibrary loan requests will not be accepted from EDS users for items:
  • In the Reference collection or on course reserves at the EDS Library
  • Items that are checked out; these should be recalled through the Circulation Desk or by using the recall form.
  • Items that the Libray owns in microform format
  • Items in the Online Catalog with an "in process" status; these should be requested through the Circulation Desk by using the "in process" form.

  • You may make your requests electronically by clicking the relevant link below.
